Cleaning and Repairing Leather Items

a  Leather seat willneed a repair to maintain its look and feel, and this material has to be handled just right to preserve its integrity.  a sofa or chair has gone a long time without maintenance, it is probably covered in grit and small particles of abrasive soil.

Applying moisture or rubbing fabrics before removing these soils may damage fibers or push the soil deep into the fabric. In either case, treatment will do more harm than good. This approach is especially important when working with leather, as leather is sensitive to abrasion.

A professional furniture cleaning service can rescue a beloved sofa or chair from the trash pile, and a homeowner might be surprised just how much a professional crew can restore. Homeowners are often tempted to handle the treatment themselves.

People who own leather furniture often need cleaning tips to ensure they keep their items conditioned properly. This material is particularly sensitive to stains and damage, so it needs regular attention to stay in excellent condition.

Leather care

Storing leather properly when it is not being used is the most important thing you can do to keep it in its best condition.

- Heat exposure can cause the pigmented finish to bubble and to peel away.

- Freezing temperatures can really damage your satchel and the natural structure of it’s fibres, that give it strength, and make them brittle.

- Cold temperatures can also cause the pigmented coating to crack excessively, so if you don’t like that effect then it’s prudent not to let it get too cold.

- Leather polish will bring a shine to your Leather, but has the potential to discolor, dry out, or clog the leather surface. Use this for special occasions, and test on a hidden area first before using a new product.

- Almost all leather products sold in stores include a tag describing how to clean the jacket. Because there are many varieties of leather, not all of them distinguishable to the naked idea, follow the specific instructions on the label whenever possible.

How to Remove Stains From Leather

Ink stains the leather and will be absorbed very quickly.Any product that will dissolve the ink will also dissolve the color from  leather. If the ink is fresh then Leather Solution may sometimes remove it before the leather can absorb it. Home remedies can sometimes work but usually they cause more problems and enlarge the original problem. Small marks can disappear without any treatment as the leather takes them in. Small marks and large stains and scribbles can be removed professionally and the area recolored to match.

Human and dog urine usually do not harm the leather .  A mild detergent / soap solution can usually clean the offensive problem. You do not want to soak the leather. Remove the cushion if you can and remove the stuffing.

Oil Stains From Food, Skin, And Hair

oil and cheese had leaked onto the leather. these instructions are first step being to dump corn starch onto the stain. My guess is the powder absorbed the oil faster than the leather could. Of course I don’t know how large an area was affected. This is the best emergency action for sudden problems.
Small oil stains can be treated and successfully removed if you have the patience. Corn starch (or in a pinch, talcum powder) rubbed briskly into the stain with your fingers until the heat from the friction is felt. That heat loosens the oil and allows the corn starch to absorb the oil before the leather can. This method rarely takes out any color but does take out the oil. Patience and persistence are the keys to success.Larger stains from head and hand oil require time in our shop and usually require refinishing as well as extraction.

Water Stains
Clean water stains such as condensation from a glass is easily treated with clean water! You have a stain because the water drop or “ring” has dried in the middle of a piece of leather. It has a clear point of demarcation to the rest of the leather.

Water has a tendency to dry leather’s natural “oils” so it is best to condition the leather after getting rid of the stain with “The Leather Solution Cleaner, Conditioner and Protector". Dirty water or tea, coffee, soda can be treated the same way but may leave its own mark that requires professional care.
Removing paint from leather is tricky, and you may not always be successful. Most solutions used to remove paint will also remove the pigment from your leather furniture

If you want to treat your leather better and increase its lifespan, apply saddle soap in small quantities to it regularly. The key to healthy leather is proactive treatment, not reactive treatment. The manufacturer may recommend a certain conditioner or cleaner to remove ink stains. They may also advise against doing something, possibly on this list, that either won't clean the leather or will actively hurt it.
